Attic Insulation Cost Per Square Foot
Below are typical Ontario attic insulation cost figures for each square foot of attic floor; the quote we email you replaces them.
A blown-in top-up over existing insulation: about $1.25 to $2.25 a square foot.
Empty or close-to-empty attic, blown to R-60: about $1.75 to $3.00 a square foot.
Removing old insulation and blowing in new: about $3.00 to $5.50 a square foot.
Cathedral ceilings and sloped rooms usually cost $3.50 to $7.00 per square foot of ceiling.
What Raises The Attic Insulation Cost
A low roof with little headroom slows the work and raises the attic insulation cost. So does a hatch in a closet, a lot of ductwork in the attic, or many pot lights that need covers. Wet, dirty or mixed old insulation adds removal time. An attic with no baffles needs them fitted before blowing starts.
Air sealing adds to the price, usually $400 to $1,500 on its own, but it is the step that does the most for comfort and for ice dams. See attic air sealing for what is included.
What Lowers The Attic Insulation Cost
A roomy attic with a hatch in a hallway is quick to work in. Clean, dry old insulation can stay, so the job is a top-up instead of a removal. Doing the whole attic at once keeps the attic insulation cost per square foot lower than doing it in sections over several years.
Some homeowners also qualify for the Ontario attic insulation rebate, which pays part of the cost when the program's rules are met.
A Written Quote Shows The Real Attic Insulation Cost
Two attic insulation quotes can look alike and be very different. One may list a depth and an R-value; another may list only a number of bags. Our quote states the material, the depth, the finished R-value and the square footage, so you can compare it fairly with anyone else's.
