How Much The Attic Insulation Rebate Pays
How big the attic insulation rebate is comes down to the starting R-value, and the finished attic has to hit R-50 or better. According to the program's website:
An attic that starts at R-12 or less can qualify for up to $1,250.
An attic that starts above R-12 and up to R-25 can qualify for up to $1,000.
An attic that starts above R-25 and up to R-35 can qualify for up to $800.
Sloped and flat ceilings get their own attic insulation rebate scale: up to $750 when brought from R-25 or less to R-28, or up to $650 when brought from R-12 or less to R-20. Whatever the tier, the cheque is capped at half of what the job cost after tax.
The Assessment Route Pays A Little More
There is a second way to the attic insulation rebate. Book a registered energy advisor for a home energy assessment before and after the work, and the attic insulation rebate climbs to $1,500, $1,200 or $900 for the same three starting depths, with sloped and flat ceilings at $780. The assessment route also opens the door to other measures in the same visit, and it lets you use any contractor you like, not only a listed one.
Who Qualifies For The Attic Insulation Rebate
The program is for owners, not tenants, though a landlord can apply for a rental house, and a seasonal cottage may qualify. Detached houses, semis, row houses and non-stacked townhouses count, as do mobile homes set on a permanent foundation. Stacked townhouses are left out. Enbridge Gas customers with an active account and a gas furnace or boiler qualify, and so do homes connected to the Ontario electricity grid that heat with electricity, propane, oil or wood.
An address that already collected an attic rebate from Enbridge Gas, Save on Energy or any other Ontario program cannot claim again, and a home lived in for six months or fewer is not yet eligible. Every reachable part of the attic has to be insulated, not just the easy half.
The Standalone Stream Pays Only Through Listed Contractors
Without an assessment, the attic insulation rebate is paid only on jobs done by a company on the program's contractor list, and that company submits the claim for you. As of October 2026 the list is closed: no new contractors are being accepted, and the names shown are Brand Insulation, EcoComfort, George Kent, Great Northern Insulation, Home Depot and Solidcare. Check the list on homerenovationsavings.ca before you sign anything if you intend to claim the attic insulation rebate this way. Should your preferred installer be missing from it, the assessment route above still lets you use them.
Attic Insulation Rebate Rules And Dates Can Change
Rebate programs in Ontario have opened, changed and closed with little notice. The program's own site prints no end date, but one of the listed companies reports that it is currently scheduled to end November 30, 2026, that it was extended once already, and that funds go out first come, first served. The attic insulation rebate figures on this page come from the program's website in October 2026. Confirm the current rules and your eligibility there before you count on any amount.
